Camera and Me (or should it be and I?)

What is photo taking to you? Or should I ask, what is a photograph to you? No not MCQ question, since there are endless possibility and there's no one right answer. However personally photos are something that record down some memory that I don't want to forget! A moment that I deem valuable enough for me to kept reminding myself of. Do not confused it with unforgettable moments, if it's unforgettable why would I need something to remind me of it?

A moment like that should be spontaneous, so spontaneous that sometimes you missed capturing them cause it's faster than your shooting finger (or whatever jargon you want to call it) can react, or due to camera specs limitation. Some happen in milliseconds, but it's worth capturing, moments like the look on my face when I just found out that I am too late to go to my exam, me flying over a wira during a motorcycle accident, the two skanky flies making love on my desk moments ago before I send them to hell instead of let them reproduce more baby-flies. Yeap, moments like this, some people wait a life time, for a moment like this, some people search forever (Moment Like This - Kelly Clarkson). Of course other moments like the sun set that you're looking at when you're out on a beach vacation, the beautiful rainbow across the sky that so happen to match with a building window (imagine a rainbow pouring out from an office window). All these you so happen to see and you wouldn't want to forget moments. They are priceless, especially when you found them when you nearly forget about those moments.

If I manage to capture any of those moments, I'd want to keep them as close to what I see with my eyes as possible. I don't have superman zoom-in vision, so a close up that I can see the dick of the fly when it is making love is unnecessary. My eyes doesn't apply frames, logos, etc when I'm seeing anything, okay I'm wearing my specs now, so yea there are frames but you get the idea, those flim stripes, putting two black line on top or at the bottom they are unnecessary. My eyes doesn't remove something that is there too (my memory does however, I only remember what I want to, I remember the look of the passanger in the Wira that I crash into, because she's young, but I can't remember the driver, because she's too old for me, so I remove her from my 'moment'), so if something is there and you happen to take it while shooting an image, let them be there. Nothing is 'not suppose to be there' when it is there! Can I say I'm not suppose to be in this world when I'm already in this world? Doesn't belongs to and not suppose to be are slightly different, at least, in my humble opinion. Oh yes photo editing is no doubt a great addition, just adjust the color so they are closer to what's in your eyes when you're taking the photo! I'm not seeing some ribbons, bling bling, butterflies, dogs, love, stars on your hair so why should I see it when I'm looking at the photo? Don't even get me started on posing... Why let the viewer see what you are not? Unless you treat it as a commercial shooting, and you are the product, if that's the case, consider putting up a price tag on the face instead of some bling bling.

Have to agree that the situation is diffrent when we're talking about commercial shootings, photograph of products. This is the kind of photo that you need to do whatever it takes to bring out the best side of the product. Shoot from a lower angle to make it seems taller, from the right when there's a crack on the left, photoshop it so that the color look a lot more vibrant than it is. Asking a model to close her eyes when you shoot when she have small eyes, bite their lips when their lips are too thick.

Everything changes when you're doing something for the money, with that being said, the next time when you're taking a photo during an outing, try not to ask your friends to pose before taking a photo, take the moment as they are, instead of them posing with a mic, capture the moment when they really sing their heart out!

I know there must be something that I missed mentioning, but I'm too lazy to reread it and edit it, since writing, caputring my thoughts for the moment as it arrive, is similar to my view about photo taking, best let is stay as they are originally (when money isn't involved).

What is lauyeelosophy?

It was a little unexpected that this blog is still up at running after so many years, and definitely a huge chunk of inactivity. Started off with nothing but some personal nags, sharing some of the songs that I genuinely like and their lyrics, and some thoughts that I have no one around me to discuss with, bullshits that I've structured.

Soon I'll put everything into a mixing bowl, sharing lyrics with a structured bullshit story. I wouldn't update it as often as I'd like to but for people who like reading, I'm sure you wouldn't be disappointed.

Yes a picture is worth a thousand words, but it wouldn't be as entertaining as a thousand words for sure.

Sincerely yours,
lauyee
